FINGERS CROSSED
I received a call lastnight from the Director of Education and Scholarship Chair of Alpha Phi Alpha (a scholarship I applied for). I have been selected as a finalist and have an interview next Tuesday!!! I'm so nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time! Keep your fingers crossed that it goes well! xoxo, Damara

Keep your fingers crossed!
I have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks working on scholarship applications. I have completed 8 total thus far. Woo Hoo! Keep your fingers crossed that I win some money. It would sure help with financing my college education. $69,372 is what I am expecting my degree to cost. Yikees! I know the importance of getting my degree... if college was cheap everyone would go and there would be nothing setting people apart in the job market. So, here's to winning a scholarship or two (or 12! Heck... I'll take all that I can get) and attending VCU in the fall!

I Love VCU!
I spent the weekend in Richmond with a friend that goes to VCU. I got there around 6, and we went to the dining hall to eat dinner. Quite an experience. The Shafer Court Dining Center is the dining facility on campus. They have all sorts of foods.. It's no wonder that "Freshman 15" happens. Afterwards we walked around and he showed me some points of interest. One that stuck in my mind was the Cary Street Gym. Ironic enough, it is extremely close to the cafeteria.. Hmm, I wonder why? ;-) Anyway, the gym is huge! It has all the standard equipment (treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, etc), an indoor track, and rock climbing wall. It even has a pool with a water slide! Who said college can't be fun?
I left VCU Sunday afternoon and got home just in time to catch the basketball game on TV. It was another great game! VCU beat Kansas State 71-61. They are now headed to the Final Four competition which will be held in Houston next weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be home from the gymnastics competition in time to watch the game. I'll keep you all posted as to how they do. xoxo, D

Elite 8 Baby!
The VCU mens basketball team is on a roll! The game last night was crazy! It went back and forth the entire time with Florida State making a basket then immediately followed by VCU making a basket. The final score was 72-71. This victory means that VCU will be advancing on to the Elite 8. The game is scheduled for Sunday against University of Kansas. What a great victory! I am proud to be a VCU RAM!

Sweet!
VCU Basketball has made it into the Sweet 16!
If you don't know much about basketball, the Sweet 16 is an NCAA tournament within "March Madness". It's a pretty big deal so in support of my school I have been sporting my VCU apparel today. I will also be tuning in to watch the game and cheer them on (as if they can hear me). If you are interested in watching I believe it starts at 10pm EST. Go RAMS!

Summer Plans
I have been offered a summer nanny ("kid sitting") position that I am extremely excited about! It will allow me to save up a little money before heading off to school. I have babysat for this family on many occasions in the past. They have two children, one girl and one boy. They are great! No, I am not sugar coating it. These kids are seriously wonderful. They listen, behave and are enjoyable to be around. So here's the plan for the summer... I would be watching the kiddos Monday thru Thursday 8:30am-5:30pm. I have been given permission to do pretty much whatever. I anticipate lots of trips to Busch Gardens, the pool, park, movies. It'll be fun! Definitely a low-key, low-stress kinda job.
I have adapted my gymnastics coaching schedule to work around the "kid sitting" :-) I'll be working at the gym Friday and Saturday and probably one other week day (Monday I think). Sounds like a lot, but this is how I like it. Remember me? The girl who got her first job when she was 14. The girl that juggled 3 jobs at once... Yea, this is me. xoxo -D

Accepted!
I have been accepted into Virginia Commonwealth University!
It is my first choice college so undoubtedly, I have my heart set on attending in the fall. I assumed that a weight would be lifted off my shoulders once I received the acceptance, however, now I have a lot more to worry about. Financial aid, scholarships, which dorm to live in, should I continue to work while in college, where I will park my car in crowded Richmond, what to bring to college, what do I need to buy for college, etc. The list goes on and on... So does the stress and overwhelment (I think I just made that word up). Hopefully things will calm down a bit in the next few weeks. xoxo, Damara
